Description
The 55 Flowery Hen was created in 1955 by Father Martin Silverudd, a Swedish poultry geneticist and breeder. He developed this autosexing white‑egg layer by working with Leghorn‑type lines to produce a bird that could easily be sexed at hatch and would lay well - making it practical for both farm and small‑scale egg production. The name “55” refers to the year of its creation, and “Flowery” comes from the speckled, flower‑like plumage on the hens. 55 Flowery Hens are an extremely rare white egg laying breed, it is the only breed in American that has the sexlink dilution barring,(BO or Bsd), type crele, there are only two breeds in the world where males are a white crele. The females are a gorgeous mottled crele, they are autosexing and they are extremely easily sexed at hatch. Today, the 55 Flowery Hen is valued by homesteaders for the same reasons it was created: function first, easy sexing, dependable white eggs, and hardy birds that thrive in active, foraging systems.
